In last week's article, I pinpointed the behaviors of professional wrestling fans and that sometimes our quick judgment does affect the performers and company involved. I never stated, insisted, or agreed that we should continuously accept the nonsense we are presented week in and week out and that anyone is obligated to support something they don't believe in. Instead, I believe that we should and have the right to be vocal about our opinions, whether we dislike or like something. What I do disagree with is the habitual, irrelevant chants that break out during matches like "we are awesome," chanting for people that are no longer employed by WWE, doing the wave, chanting "boring" when the contest is not boring or anything to take attention from what's happening in the ring. Sometimes our reaction has helped determine if a storyline or character is getting over and working. I wouldn't doubt that this type of stupidity has been responsible for angles and pushes to be derailed and cut short – I don't think many fans realize that this attitude can give the Kevin Dunn's backstage the leverage to protest against the changes being made on the shows and also gives the uninspired members on the creative team another reason to not to be productive and be lazy.
WWE brought back the "Beat the Clock" challenge to determine a number one contender to the Divas Championship on Monday Night RAW, as the winner would go on to face Nikki Bella at Night of Champions. It was the first time the Beat the Clock challenge was utilized for the divas – the urgency to find Nikki an opponent before this month's show felt all of a sudden. Especially after last week's segment where she blatantly stated that the past six weeks of booking multiple tag team matches, no matter who won or lost were pointless and that winning the Divas Championship is the only thing that mattered. It's like that one line from the titleholder and the crowd turning their backs on the segment and the match forced WWE to brainstorm another approach to prolong this storyline. However, it was explained that because Paige, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch were victorious at Summerslam, they earned the right to fight for a shot at the championship.
Charlotte and Becky Lynch were pitted against Brie Bella and Alicia Fox and not going up against members of Team B.A.D. I mentioned in my tweet that I misunderstood the logic behind this decision, as we were told that the call-ups were to create "more" competition for Nikki Bella by Stephanie McMahon herself on RAW; instead, they are still keeping with the "team" concepts. Fox and Brie tried to defend the honor of their champion and prevent members of PCB from becoming formidable challengers to the title. Becky Lynch set the pace, by defeating Alicia Fox in three minutes and twenty-one seconds. I understand that the concept of the Beat the Clock challenge is for a competitor to win their match in the fastest amount of time and set a marked time for the other competitors to do their best to win their matches within the allotted time or under it. The company has been giving an abundance of time to the divas' matches as of late, with Charlotte defeating Brie Bella within one minute and forty seconds with her Natural Selection and Lynch locking in her Dis-Arm-Her on Fox three minutes into the match and winning – Paige was unable to defeat Sasha Banks within the time set by Charlotte, and the number one contendership was awarded to Charlotte.
In a lengthy response to a fan's question on his website last week, Lance Storm shared his thoughts on the divas revolution:
"Before I get into my thoughts on what they are doing let me first state that I am a big fan and supporter of women's wrestling and have a great deal of respect for many of the women involved in the "Divas revolution". For the most part, I think the Divas Revolution is being screwed and unless they change the way it is being presented it will fail, or at least not succeed to the level it could or more importantly should. To fully understand why you have to look at how the women are presented in NXT and how that enabled them to get over to the level that they did, and then look at how they are being presented in WWE and consider if that will also allow them to get over to that same level.
In NXT they are women wrestlers, they are competing for the NXT Women's Championship; a title belt that looks credible (actually better than the Men's Title in my opinion) and therefore can be respected. We were never told that the women were going to be taken seriously or that they were going to have good matches and be respected. They were just presented on the show in a respectable light, allowed to focus on competing to be a champion, and given enough time to do a good job if they were able. The women worked hard, had good matches, were given good angles, and fans started to care, and they got over. It was in a sense Organic."
I find that many women's wrestling fans reference the "Golden Era" that spawned the talents of Lita, Molly Holly, Jazz, Victoria, and Trish Stratus to be their favorite period to watch the product and is often responsible for turning fans into following "niche" sport outside the WWE. It nursed my appetite for women's wrestling and helped further my curiosity into discovering the likes of Cheerleader Melissa, Mercedes Martinez, "Dark Angel" Sarah Stock, Nikki Roxx, and a young up-and-comer from Richmond, Virginia then known as "Alexxis Laree." The reason why the era worked and is often considered the "best" period for the divas division is because it was organic. Like Storm had mentioned, we were never told that we were going to receive good matches, instead, we sat and anticipated the matches to be good because they were that good. The entire division worked their hardest and eventually won over the fans' respect for doing so like the women in NXT. The similarities are there, all the divas had personalities back then that were easy to differentiate one from another and all wanted to become WWE Women's Champions at the end of the day. When you look at the main roster today, only four women have been pushed to the forefront and been given broad personas, that being Paige, Naomi, Nikki Bella, and in some form Brie Bella. Meanwhile, the rest of the division has been pushed to the back and not used once throughout this storyline.
Storm continued:
"Furthermore coming out and telling us there is a Diva's Revolution and the women are going to be good and important now, was a big mistake. Don't tell us it's going to be good, just let it be good and we will come to that conclusion all on our own, like we did with NXT. Also in NXT, each woman was given her turn to be focused on and chase the title. This allowed us to get behind them and follow their journey and struggle while keeping the focus on becoming Champions. In WWE we are getting 3 groups of 3, which makes it nearly impossible to focus on the women individually and form an attachment to any of them and it has completely removed the focus on the title and being a champion.
Since the start of the Diva's revolution on RAW, the title has not been the focus at all. PCB are faces, Team BAD are heels, and Team Bella floats back and forth. All are getting wins and losses, no one is moving forwards or backwards and no individual is getting focused on directly. We are constantly being told it's a new era, but to be honest we are just getting slightly longer, slightly better matches, with a few new faces. "
I happened to be listening to Court Bauer and John Pollock's latest show the day before Storm posted his thoughts. Pollock pointed out that WWE is going out of its way to push this revolution, even if it means confusing its audience and burying the division along the way:
"It's like this company is telling you "hey this is great, because we are telling you it's great." It's not the end result of this several month-long transformation of this division and people are getting behind these women and looking at all the milestones they are accomplishing. No from day one, we are telling you "This is a revolution, this is excellent," which is leading the audience to believe that the women that had been on the roster prior to this well, they're part of the "problem." Which all of those women are still part of this division and I think it just left the audience not understanding how are we reacting to these people. Whereas, NXT is simply the chase for the title and these women haven't gotten over organically and it wasn't done on day one. It took a long time. And now the women are a huge focal point of NXT."
Since the debuts of Sasha Banks, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch and this revolution, we should have been conditioned to think one of these three women or one of their respective teammates will be the undoing of Nikki Bella's reign. However, we have been conditioned to think that these women need to be allied with Paige or Naomi and Tamina Snuka to be pushed to the forefront, which presents a big conflict in booking. Instead, you have three additional women on the roster, and once WWE has run its course with this storyline, all three will be pushed into the background like the rest of the division. Aside from the minor changes that have been implemented like longer matches, better match quality, and more pre-match vignettes and segments, not one competitor has been positioned as a definitive contender to the Divas Championship until this week. The past several weeks of booking have been focused on putting over teams, as opposed to focusing directly on an individual and allowing the fans to get behind them and their journey towards the belt.
WWE has pretty much made it known to their entire fanbase "Hey we called them up because all of the divas sucked" and desperately wants them to agree with that sentiment and question nothing further. It's absurd to think that fans are going to nod their heads and agree that "these chicks are better" when they haven't seen the full potential of the individuals because they are sharing the spotlight with eight other women. It's crowded - multiple divas matches happening on the flagship show is a good thing, but I can't help but feel that a lot of these matches are just happening to drive this movement into becoming a popular hashtag and not an actual revolution that will change the entire landscape of the division going forward.
I might sound redundant at this point, but the three-person teams killed this storyline a few weeks ago; I'm supposed to believe that Paige is all of a sudden accepting of friendships after the debacle between her and AJ Lee that went on a tirade for months and ended with the two teaming up at WrestleMania to take on the Bellas. Sasha Banks, who has been standing on her feet for quite a while in NXT needs to be aligned with Naomi and Tamina Snuka to be propelled to the title picture. Charlotte and Becky Lynch are paired with a woman who is not good in the friendship department, instead of getting over on their own accord. Brie Bella is relegated to being her sister's tag team partner and nothing more. She hasn't even expressed or shown interest in going after the title she once held. Does Brie even talk anymore or has she become a mute? Besides her barking at ringside. Naomi's character evolution has subsided for the more dominant personality of Banks. And Tamina Snuka and Alicia Fox are just hanging around.
I felt like the gimmick matches on RAW were good in theory, but didn't coincide with the changes that WWE is trying to establish. Again I understand the concept, but I honestly think it was a mistake to have PCB taking on Team Bella and not going up against Team B.A.D for the title shot. Brie Bella looked to be the weakest link of her team and didn't get a proper comeuppance and was easily washed by Charlotte. It's been obvious that WWE has been planting the seeds for the inevitable clash between Nikki Bella and Charlotte and for whatever reason wants this match to happen already. Naomi and Tamina were knocked out of competing in the Beat the Clock challenge, as Sasha Banks was the only member who received an opportunity against Paige. The match ended in a time-limit draw, as Team B.A.D pulled Banks out of the ring before Paige could make the cover and beat Charlotte's time.
Though I'm fine with the company finding an opponent for Night of Champions, the progression between stables versus stables to one-on-one matches for the championship seems lost. I feel it's been rushed. It's like watching a horror flick and it immediately skips to the end where everyone is dead and the lone survivor escaped. You didn't get to watch Jason Voorhees' rampage at Camp Crystal Lake in its entirety, instead, all we know is people got killed, except for this person. The Divas Revolution is a distraction to keep fans from pointing out what is still wrong with the division and to suppress the comparisons between the main roster and the NXT divas division. I believe that WWE will continue to cut corners with this storyline and promote this as a featured attraction just to stay on top of everyone's tongues. In the two weeks ahead of Night of Champions, the company has enough time to turn things around and possibly get this storyline back on track, if they aren't being delusional.

Cheerleader Melissa became the inaugural Lady Luck Champion on Saturday in Pacifica, California after she defeated Thunder Rosa in the finals of an eight-woman tournament. Cheerleader Melissa and Thunder Rosa, along with some of the best women wrestlers that the California area had to offer were rounded up by Gold Rush Pro Wrestling for their Lady Luck Tournament. Choosing competitors like Nicole Savoy, Brittany Wonder, Kikyo Nakamura, Lisa Lace, Shotzi Blackheart, and Luchadora Datura, the promotion presented an action-packed show to crown their first champion and live-streamed it to YouTube, which you can see here. One takeaway from the tournament is that opening-round matches were booked as rematches, which resulted in great back-and-forth competitiveness. The competitors' familiarity with each other helped provide the backstory for the matches, along with commentary doing their best to inform those watching on the internet about everyone's journeys in wrestling leading up to the tournament.
Brittany Wonder defeated Shotzi Blackheart in the first match of the tournament. Wonder was setting up for her Butt of Doom when Shotzi grabbed her teddy bear; the distraction prevented Wonder from connecting with the move and Blackheart came charging with a running senton to the corner but missed. Wonder followed up with the Butt of Doom and won the match. Kikyo Nakamura defeated Lisa Lace after countering an attempted tornado DDT into a spinning powerbomb. Lace attacked Nakamura after the match and sent her down to the mat with a powerbomb from the atop the turnbuckle. Nakamura quickly got back to her feet and before long a pull-apart brawl spilled outside the ring, with security breaking it up. It was explained through commentary that there was animosity between Lace and Nakamura going into the match, as Kikyo went after Lace as she entered the ring, forcing the referee to ring the bell and start the match.
Thunder Rosa was the odds-on favorite in the tournament, as she received the biggest reaction from the Pacifica audience, as it was clear that the crowd was pro-Thunder Rosa and nothing more. She and Luchadora Datura displayed their high-flying styles, lucha libre-influenced holds, and reversals, and Rosa showed off some techniques she acquired during her recent tour of Japan for World Wonder Ring STARDOM. Thunder Rosa defeated Datura with the underhook guillotine drop. Cheerleader Melissa and Nicole Savoy collided in perhaps a rematch of sorts, and like their previous encounter on the West Coast, they went toe-to-toe and hard-hitting strikes for another hard-hitting strike. Both competitors blocked each other's attempted shoulder blocks off the ropes to start the match.
Savoy kept the former two-time SHIMMER Champion grounded with submission holds and gained a couple of quick pinfalls with the crucifix. Melissa fired back with a Samoan Drop to pick up a two-count over Savoy and tied up her opponent in the Kondo Clutch. Savoy eventually breaks out of the hold and hits a German Suplex hold for a two-count and Melissa followed through with a leg-hook Fisherman Suplex hold for a two-count pinfall as well. Savoy then hit a Belly to Back Suplex and it appeared that she was going for a submission hold, but the referee started counting the pinfall. She turned over into a cross-arm breaker with Melissa rolling her up on her shoulders for another two-count and went on to win the match with a Samoan Drop from the second rope, Savoy was on the top rope.
With all four competitors decided in the semifinals, it was announced that Brittany Wonder would be taking on Cheerleader Melissa and Thunder Rosa would be going up against Kikyo Nakamura. Similar to her first-round matchup against Lisa Lace, Nakamura's size difference and overall power were her biggest advantages against Thunder Rosa but coincidentally turned out to be her downfall. Kikyo tossed her opponent into the guardrails and headed backstage to find a stop sign and had planned to crack Thunder Rosa with it; Lisa Lace stopped Nakamura and grabbed the stop sign out of her hands, all to receive a big boot in the chest for her efforts. Nakamura with a stop sign in hand, hunted down Rosa at ringside, she continuously ducked and was able to get the weapon and hit Nakamura across the back with it and make it back in the ring in time to get the countout victory and go onto the finals.
Cheerleader Melissa defeated Wonder with Air Raid Crash and would again utilize the finisher to put away Thunder Rosa in the tournament finals and had her raised as the first-ever Lady Luck Champion. Gold Rush Pro Wrestling presented a great title tournament that might not looked promising, as some of the names like Shotzi Blackheart, Lisa Lace, Kikyo Nakamura, and Brittany Wonder are not too familiar to those not following the independent scene on the West Coast. I didn't find one complaint about the entire show and thought the matches were well-received by the crowd and the momentum continued from the beginning to end of the show. Cheerleader Melissa being crowned the first titleholder is a good move, as the veteran will help set the standard for the next champions to come. The promotion has already announced that Cheerleader Melissa will be making her first title defense as champion at their October 24th show, but her opponent is yet to be announced.

Nanae Takahashi's SEAdLINNNG held its debut show last Wednesday at the Korakuen Hall. Tons of major and smaller Joshi promotions were accounted for at the independent event, as their competitors were utilized on the show except for World Wonder Ring STARDOM, Kyoko Inoue and Yumiko Hotta represented DIANA, Arisa Nakajima and Eri represented JWP, Kaori Yoneyama represented her YMZ promotion, Syuri, and Tsukasa Fujimoto represented their home promotions REINA and Ice Ribbon respectively, Emi Sakura and Kotori were representatives of Gatoh Move, Takumi Iroha and MIZUKI stood tall for Marvelous and LLPW-X. However, the current World of STARDOM Champion Meiko Satomura did appear on the show, representing her promotion, SENDAI Girls, as she and Takahashi went head-to-head in the tag team main event. It's been rumored that Nanae will not be working with her former promotion, STARDOM going forward and will continue to perform as a freelancer and promote SEAdLINNNG events instead. Back in June, she and Natsuki*Taiyo announced the new production company and their intentions to run shows under the SEAdLINNNG banner.
Despite serving as the senior managing director, Natsuki*Taiyo debuted in a new role last Wednesday. Billed simply as "Natsuki," she worked the third match on the card as a referee, which will be her role going forward. Being that it was the first show, it was reported that there were eight-hundred, fifty-five fans in attendance. Considering that the arena seats over a thousand and has a capacity of approximately 1,800 people, the attendance is not the biggest. Again, not many promotions have been drawing big numbers at Korakuen Hall as of late, besides STARDOM though their last show they pulled in about seven hundred fans.
Nanae Takahashi began announcing matches for the first show at the tail-end of July. She and Ayako Hamada would headline the main event, as they took on Meiko Satomura and a partner of her choosing, later revealed to be Amazing Kong. The rest of the card was announced leading up to the debut show, as the matches included mid-card talent from various promotions and big names like Amazing Kong, making her first appearance in Japan in eight years. Takahashi and the reigning WAVE Singles Champion were victorious in SEAdLINNNG's first main event, as Takahashi picked up the pinfall on Kong following a Refrigerator Bomb. Aja Kong appeared in the closing moments of the show and reformed her partnership with Amazing Kong. It has been announced that both Kongs will be a part of SEAdLINNNG's second event on November 25th, as this will be the first time in several years both competitors have worked together. It was reported that the show would be headlined by another tag team main event, but the match has not been made official.
Onto the rest of the card, Takumi Iroha and Eri opened the show with Iroha getting the win with a Ligerbomb. Kyoko Inoue and Syuri's match ended in a time-limit draw after fifteen minutes. Kaori Yoneyama and MIZUKI defeated Sareee and Tsukasa Fujimoto after Yoneyama picked up the win with a diving senton onto Sareee. There was also a six-person tag team match, as Kotori, Manami Toyota, and Yumi Hotta defeated Arisa Nakajima, Emi Sakura, and Hiroyo Matsumoto after Kotori got the Morning Stars on Sakura. SEAdLINNNG's next event will be on November 25th at the Korakuen Hall.
