Act Yasukawa dropped a bombshell of an announcement a couple of nights ago. She announced that she had decided to retire from professional wrestling as a result of advice from her doctor and for her well-being. Yasukawa had been going back and forth with making this hard decision for several months now, but her determination, love, and admiration for the sport prevented her from calling it quits sooner rather than later. For those not aware, Yasukawa battled against the obstacles and hurdles her auto-immune disease, Grave's Disease had placed in front of her throughout life and sought out a career in professional wrestling. She had suffered from vision impairment in her right eye due to the disease and wore an eyepatch over her eye – that eyepatch would become synonymous with Yasukawa's appeal to fans. However, Yasukawa wasn't just wearing the eyepatch for fashion or wanted to stand out from the bright, cookie-cutter look that was on the roster at the time.

Yasukawa wasn't wearing the eyepatch to be a trendsetter or anything else, she was blind. It wasn't widespread knowledge that she was blind in her right eye until this interview was published. Yasukawa had wrestled two full years with the impairment and won the Wonder of STARDOM Championship and the Artist of STARDOM Championship within the same calendar year and unsuccessfully challenged for the tag team titles – all done with vision in one eye. Yasukawa was hospitalized last April due to the disease's complications and had her right eye surgically repaired and her vision restored for the first time she was able to see through both eyes. The controversial main event against Yoshiko for the World of STARDOM Championship back in February resulted in Yasukawa being hospitalized again for almost a month and sustaining a fractured nasal cavity, cheek, and orbital socket. She underwent surgical procedures to repair the damage and rehabilitation, but her vision could not be saved. Ahead of her return to the promotion on September 23rd, Act was advised by her doctor to discontinue her career as a professional wrestler and that her vision would never return to its full capacity, which brings us to what's happening now. 

World Wonder Ring STARDOM held a press conference on Tuesday morning to announce Act Yasukawa's retirement. Yasukawa announced that her final match will be a part of the December 23rd show at Korakuen Hall and that she requested to team up with Kairi Hojo and Haruka Kato, as competitors from the same graduating class from training to take on her Oedo Tai stablemates, Kris Wolf, Holidead and Kyoko Kimura. It's been long speculated that Yasukawa was planning to retire after websites had reported that she had posted a personal blog that mentioned carrying out those plans. It was later believed to be mistranslated and the rumors were never debunked by Yasukawa or the promotion. However, it's true. Act Yasukawa had planned on announcing her retirement a couple of months back following her return to the ring. I became privileged to information about Yasukawa and remained tight-lipped about her retirement for months. Yasukawa was having some troubles in the ring due to her once again impaired vision and struggled to judge the distance between her and her opponent. She planned on announcing her departure following the California shows in October, with it coinciding in November, but was allowed by the promotion to finish out her career at the year-end show. 

Io Shirai dropped the Wonder of STARDOM Championship to Santana Garrett two weeks ago at the Hakata Starlanes in Fukuoka, Japan. Garrett defeated Shirai in the double title main event, as she retained her NWA World Women's Championship and rolled Shirai up to win the promotion's second-tier belt. Despite the title loss, Shirai will be getting another championship opportunity on the promotion's year-end show on December 23rd, as she challenges Meiko Satomura for the World of STARDOM Title at Korakuen Hall. The promotion has announced that the new Artist of STARDOM Champions will be determined through a three-way match on this Sunday's show at Shinkiba 1st RING. The titles had been practically shelved long before Koguma's firing in September. Back in May, Koguma, Kairi Hojo, and Chelsea defeated Io Shirai, Mayu Iwatani, and Reo Hazuki in a decision match for the then-vacant belts. Dubbed "Candy Crush," the new titleholders didn't have a chance to defend the titles, as Koguma disappeared from the promotion for months with no explanation handed down. It was later revealed that she had been fired for multiple violations of the promotion's policies; STARDOM had not announced that the Artist of STARDOM belts were declared vacant. Instead, Kairi Hojo and Chelsea were still listed and accredited as the current champions, despite the belts never being defended or finding a replacement for Koguma. 

Hiroyo Matsumoto, a returning Kellie Skater, and a debuting Evie and Oedo Tai's Kris Wolf, Act Yasukawa, and Kyoko Kimura are the more formidable teams competing for the titles in addition to the current Goddesses of STARDOM Champions, Mayu Iwatani and Io Shirai teaming up with Momo Watanabe. Matsumoto, Shirai, Kimura, Iwatani, and Yasukawa are all former Artists of STARDOM Champions, whereas Skater will be getting her third shot at claiming the title while Evie, Wolf, and Watanabe will be first-time contenders. Hiroyo won the championship for the first time back in December of 2013 alongside Mayu Iwatani and Miho Wakizawa as the "Tawashis." They made it to four successful title defenses before dropping the belts to Kaori Yoneyama, Tsubasa Kuragaki, and Hatsuhinode Kamen ("Tomodachi Mania") the following August and from there the titles landed in the hands of Iwatani, Shirai, and Takumi Iroha ("Heisei-gun") that December. The belts were then vacated due to Iroha being sidelined with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in April. 

The title's history has a bunch of makeshift teams throughout, with a few exceptions of stables. Matsumoto and Kellie Skater have a long-established relationship with one another due to their connection through SHIMMER and their tenured friendship with Tomoka Nakagawa. Skater and Hiroyo recently challenged Io and Iwatani for the Goddesses of STARDOM Championship back in October as part of the double California shows. She and Matsumoto were unsuccessful in the Baldwin Park main event, as Shirai and Mayu retained. Evie's first appearance for the promotion will be a part of the title match, though this won't be her first visit to the country. She first traveled to Japan last January for a three-month stint with DIANA. The year-annual Rookie of STARDOM tournament is also scheduled for Sunday's show, as Starlight Kid, Jungle Kyouna, Hiromi Mimura, and Saori Anou are the competitors fighting for the trophy. Mimura will be taking on Anou and Kyouna will take on Starlight Kid in the first-round matches. The winners of those matches will go on to the finals, which will be held later on the show. Other matches booked – Alex Lee will be taking on Holidead and Kairi Hojo and Haruka Kato will take on Datura and Kaori Yoneyama.

Deonna Purrazzo scored her first title defense as ECWA Women's Champion this past Saturday in Woodbury Heights, Pennsylvania against Terra Calaway... Jessika Black is pulling in the title defenses – She retained the nCw Femmes Fatales International Championship against Mary Lee Rose in Mirabel, Quebec this past weekend, winning her tenth title defense... Heidi Lovelace has a shot at becoming the new Zero Gravity Champion on December 15th. Lovelace will be challenging current titleholder Kobe Durst for the belt in Hamilton, Ontario for Alpha-1 Wrestling... Pandora retained the GCW Women's Championship against Stormie Lee... Bits from "Cherry-T" – Marti Belle and Jade were unsuccessful in taking the CZW Tag Team Titles from Bill Carr and Dan Barry. Leva Bates gained her second title defense as Spirit Champion over Solo Darling... Jessicka Havok and Candice LeRae have been announced for 2CW's Syracuse, New York show on December 20th... There will be a rematch for the Elite Women's Championship this Saturday in Kitchener, Ontario, as Alexia Nicole defends her belt against Beautiful Beaa… Taeler Hendrix was crowned the inaugural Queens of Combat Champion on Sunday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as she defeated Tessa Blanchard in the finals of the tournament. Candice LeRae defeated Barbi Hayden, Deonna Purrazzo,  and Heidi Lovelace and earned a spot in the semifinals against Hendrix. Santana Garrett was supposed to be a part of the tournament match against Hendrix but missed the show due to traveling back from Japan. Blanchard defeated Jessicka Havok in the semifinals and Hendrix bested LeRae and toppled Tessa in the finals to become champion. This marks Hendrix's first championship win in three years since last winning the OVW Women's Title... In addition to their show on December 10th in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Girl Fight Wrestling will be holding another show on December 8th in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Mia Yim will be taking on "Crazy" Mary Dobson, Melanie Cruise will take on Stacy Shadows, Kelly Klein will take on Amazing Maria and Devyn Nicole meets Samantha Heights... Raze became the first-ever Premier Women's Champion on Saturday in Gilroy, California. The promotion held a four-competitor tournament for the title on the show, as Kahmora defeated Nicole Savoy in the round and Raze defeated Kikyo Nakamura. Raze won the match after rolling out the way before Kahmora connected with her top rope maneuver and followed up with a spear for the title victory. This is Raze's first championship

Japan

Neko Nitta picked up her fifth title defense as Triangle Ribbon Champion against Tsukushi and Maruko Nagasaki last Monday at the Radiant Hall. That same show included Tsukasa Fujimoto winning her first defense as REINA World Women's Champion against Yuuka in the main event... DASH Chisako and Sendai Sachiko's final appearance as a tag team will be a part of SENDAI Girls' January 6th show at Shinjuku FACE. Their opponents have not been announced, but it will be the sisters' final match together due to Sachiko's retirement, which coincides with January 17th, as she takes on Chisako one-on-one... Nanae Takahashi will face Masato Tanaka in the headlining matchup of SEAdLINNNG's January 11th event at Korakuen Hall... Mio Shirai will be making her first in-ring appearance since retiring in September, as she will be the special guest referee at RibbonMania on December 31st. Sareee will take on Yuuka... Rydeen Hagane retained the JWP Junior & POP Championship against Meiko Tanaka as part of the joint event by DIANA and JWP... Ryo Mizunami and Yuu Yamagata have advanced to the finals of the number one contender's tournament for the Regina di WAVE Championship. Mizunami defeated Rina Yamashita in her semifinal match last Sunday, as Yamagata defeated Moeka Haruhi. The finals will take place on December 6th at Shinkiba 1st RING, as the winner will go on to challenge Ayako Hamada at Korakuen Hall on December 27th... The Iron Man Heavymetalweight Title changed hands ten times in one show – Saki Akai won the championship through a battle royal that involved the former titleholder, Cherry, and the new champion, Kikutaro in the match. Kikutaro had defeated Cherry in the match previous to win the belt, becoming the 1, 056th titleholder. Akai eliminated Masa Takanashi via ring-out; Cherry had won back the championship from Gota Ihashi's tights…(no really) ahead of her elimination from the match by Akai, as Saki won the belt with a Cradle Cutback... More announcements for JWP's "Climax" on December 27th – In addition to Kayoko Haruyama's retirement match against longtime partner, Tsubasa Kuragaki, it's been announced that she and Kuragaki will take on Command Bolshoi and Kyoko Kimura in their last tag team match. DASH Chisako and Sendai Sachiko will defend the JWP & Daily Sports Tag Team Championship against Arisa Nakajima and Tsukasa Fujimoto, Hanako Nakamori will take on Kimura and Mayumi Ozaki will defend the Openweight Title against Bolshoi. Haruyama's final two matches under the JWP banner leading up to the show have been announced. Haruyama will take on Hanako Nakamori this Sunday and will take on Arisa Nakajima on December 23rd at the Itabashi Green Hall... 

Europe

Kay Lee Ray and Liam Thomson's interference interrupted Viper's first title defense as ICW Women's Champion on Sunday in Edinburgh, Scotland. The match ended in a No Contest, as Thomson struck Carmel Jacob with a steel chair; Kay Lee Ray had delivered a chair shot to the champion before the match started. However, the promotion has announced Viper's next title defense for this weekend. She will defend the title against Nikki Storm in Glasgow on Sunday... Blue Nikita retained the GSW Ladies Championship against Pollyanna... Lana Austin is six title defenses into her reign as FutureShock Women's Champion after retaining against Toni Storm... Rhia O'Reilly will be taking on Pollyanna in one of the six qualifying match-ups in the XWA Frontier Sports Championship tournament on Sunday. The winner of their match will go on to face off in a six-way elimination match on the show... Chris Brookes and Nixon Newell will face each other in a tag team match on December 18th for Attack! Pro Wrestling and will be choosing their partners for the contest... Kay Lee Ray will take on El Ligero for Southside Wrestling on December 27th... 

Mexico

Aja Perera and Nina Monet became tournament finalists during their first trip to Mexico two weeks ago. Perera and Monet made their debuts for Lucha Libre Femenil as part of the 2015 Copa LLF. Perera defeated Katary in the first round of the tournament and Nina bested Lady Jaguar by forfeit. The semi-finals of the tournament were three-way elimination matches; Nina Monet defeated Flor de Loto and Krystal and Aja Perera defeated Angelica and Polly Star. Perera and Monet went on to the finals, with Perera winning the match... 

Australia & New Zealand 

Demi Bennett defeated Saraya Knight via disqualification on Saturday night... Kellyanne retained the Pacific Women's Championship against Vixsin this past Saturday... Shazza McKenzie defeated Harley Wonderland in a Falls Count Anywhere Match...
