Serena Deeb's post on Facebook:
"Tomorrow I wrestle at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. This will be my final match. I have opted to peacefully and humbly close my career, with the deep honor & respect that I was brought up with. I infinitely thank OVW for raising me in such a way in this business- it is a lost art.
I am so grateful to every person who I have formed memories with over the past 10 years. So many of you are my family.
I fell in love with pro wrestling when I was very young. I experienced many incredible moments, as well as countless heartbreaks. I got to have my Wrestlemania moment in front of 72,000 people. I have been blessed with 7 trips to Japan & I have chosen to close this chapter of my life in this beautiful country.
There is no remorse in this decision. I have simply grown. I love you all. Thank you."
Serena Deeb chose to end her career in Japan as opposed to in the United States or anywhere else for that matter. Since the first time she traveled over to the country, Deeb has experienced nothing but success in Japan, whether it be through victories or highly praised performances – it's long been said that going to Japan has brought out a more intense and focused side of Deeb, which she credited herself. Making her Japanese debut on January 29, 2011, against Syuri for SMASH, Deeb was invited back to work for the promotion and became undefeated. Picking up additional wins over Makoto, Syuri, Kana, and Tomoka Nakagawa in the first round of the SMASH Diva Championship tournament, Deeb suffered her first loss in the promotion, as she lost to Kana in the finals of the title tournament.
In July of 2013, she was invited back to the country for an extended tour with Wrestling New Classic that ended in September. In her debut, she unsuccessfully challenged Lin Byron for the WNC Women's Championship at Shinjuku FACE. Two days later, Byron vacated the title after suffering a fracture to her left ankle during the match and a three-woman tournament was announced to crown a new champion. The round-robin tournament kicked off at the Yokohama Radiant Hall on August 3rd, with Deeb besting Makoto in the first match; Syuri defeated Makoto and Deeb defeated Syuri in the finals to win the tournament and become the new WNC Women's Champion, winning her first international title.Serena would lose the title to Syuri on September 18th before heading back to the United States; Syuri would go onto hold the WNC Women's Championship through the promotion's folding and become the final champion, making her last defense last September against Makoto as the title was retired. In an interview with Dirty Dirty Sheets back in 2011, Serena Deeb praised Syuri, calling the then-up-and-comer "awesome." From there, it was evident that Deeb had taken a liking to Syuri and over time they formed a friendship. To this day, Deeb's matches with Kana and Syuri are considered some of the best matches of her ten-year career. So it's completely understandable that she would choose a woman that she believes gave her one of her best matches to be a part of her send-off.

Kayoko Haruyama lost the JWP Openweight Championship to Command Bolshoi in the main event of Saturday's show at Shinjuku FACE. Haruyama lost in her second title defense as champion, as Bolshoi won the match with the Limelight to become the Openweight Championship for a second time in a fifteen-year window. That is correct, Command Bolshoi has not held the title in over a decade. Back on August 6, 2000, she defeated Ran Yu-Yu for the championship, ending her 525-day reign. After a seven-month reign, Bolshoi would lose the title to Azumi Hyuga in February. This is not the first time Bolshoi hasn't caught gold in an extended period it took her eight years to win her fourth JWP Tag Team Championship and Daily Sports Women's Tag Team Championship in 2009. She has since won the titles two additional times with Arisa Nakajima and Kyoko Kimura, but shots at the Openweight Title have come as frequent.
She last challenged for the title back in July of 2013, as she took on Arisa Nakajima at Pure Violence Road .13. The match was contested for Nakajima's strap and the REINA-CMLL International Championship, held by Bolshoi, as Nakajima won the match and both titles. Command has chosen Mayumi Ozaki for her first title defense at the annual Plum Mariko Memorial show at Korakuen Hall on August 16th, that show will include Nakajima taking on Tsukasa Fujimoto. Also, Kayoko Haruyama announced her retirement after seventeen years in the sport. The now-former JWP Openweight Champion's last match will be the promotion's year-end show, "Climax" on December 27th.
Never say never – It was announced during a press conference last Friday that Io Shirai and Mio Shirai will team up one final time for World Wonder Ring STARDOM's July 26th Korakuen Hall show. The announcement came as a surprise, as Mio had dismissed the idea of teaming up with her younger sister for her retirement show in September – or ever. Quite frankly it's bittersweet that the siblings will be able to work alongside one another one more time. Io shared the ring with her older sister for the main event of her self-produced show back in February, which was sponsored by Ice Ribbon, Pro Wrestling WAVE, and UNION. The marquee match-up marked the first time in three years that the estranged siblings had competed in the same bout.
The Shirai's opponents were announced on Friday, though it would been interesting to see if the promotion was bringing in outside talent to work the one-time matchup. Likely candidates would have been Syuri, Hikaru Shida, the Jumonji Sisters (DASH Chisako & Sendai Sachiko) – Expecting an appearance from Kana is out the door, though she is currently a freelance competitor and would bring it full circle. It would be Kana's first and most likely only appearance for the promotion, as she has never worked for STARDOM – it's been claimed that it's due to her falling out with Nanae Takahashi years ago as the reason.
However, the chances of booking Kana for the one-time appearance are slim, as Kana has announced an indefinite hiatus from the sport following her self-produce in September. It was reported that the former JWP Openweight Champion had elected to retire, which turned out to be incorrect. After a heap of websites reported the mistranslated news, Kana clarified her decision during a press conference on Thursday. She stated that she will continue wrestling her scheduled dates leading up to her next KANAProMania event at the Korakuen Hall on September 15th, as she will be wrestling on the show. Kana is not retiring from professional wrestling, instead taking an extended break from it. The announcement puts a damper on the upcoming planned festivities for SHIMMER's tenth anniversary weekend in October, fans outright expected Kana to be a part of the Joshi contingent at the Olympic Theatre in Cicero, Illinois on that Saturday; she did not address the reason for the decision and a timetable for return was not given.
The Shirais formed "Triple Tails" with Kana in 2010, their first match as a collective was in the main event of NEO Ladies' June 19th show, as they defeated Hikaru Shida, Yoshiko Tamura, and Ayumi Kurihara. From there, the affiliation brought about their debut in SMASH (not to be confused with the Canadian promotion). Kana re-emerged in the promotion as the leader of the stable following her loss to Tajiri back in December; on January 29, 2011, Triple Tails made their first appearance in SMASH and attacked Makoto and Yusuke Kodama after their matches, but were chased out of the ring both times by Tajiri. The trio is most notably recognized for their six-woman tag team match against Syuri, Makoto, and Serena Deeb, which took place back on April 30, 2011, at Smash.16. The match has 213, 352 views on YouTube and is often considered a favorite amongst fans of Joshi Puroresu. It was one of the first matches that helped familiarize myself with Io and Mio
It was announced in July that Io was embarking on a singles career and would be making her final appearance as a member of the group at their third self-produced show in September. Mio and Kana would go on as a team, renamed "Triple Tails.S" and Io joined STARDOM. In April of 2013, Shirai and Kana captured the WAVE Tag Team Championship from Misaki Ohata and Tsukasa Fujimoto. They made it to one title defense, retaining against Fujimoto and Sakura Hirota before losing the titles to Hikaru Shida and Yumi Ohka in July. Io went on to become STARDOM's first Grand Slam Champion, winning all the promotion's singles and tag team titles. Mio has experienced her success outside of Triple Tails and is currently walking around with three championships; she and Kana officially disbanded the partnership last May as part of their final produced event together, where Shirai and Kayoko Haruyama were defeated by Kana and Arisa Nakajima in the main event. However, that "dream match" of the Shirais going up against Kana and a partner, perhaps Hanako Nakamori won't happen before Mio's retirement and Kana's final performance for now. The current holder of the REINA World Championship has stated that after ten years of wrestling, she wanted to try something new while dismissing rumors of being pregnant.
Io and Mio Shirai will be taking on Hiroyo Matsumoto and the other co-holder of the Goddesses of STARDOM Titles, Mayu Iwatani. On Saturday, Thunder Rock made their second successful title defense against Chelsea and Cheerleader Melissa. Shirai picked up the win with a Capture German Suplex on Chelsea. Star Fire's next title defense as High Speed Champion was added to the lineup for July 26th, she will defend the strap against Oedo Tai's stablemate, Kris Wolf. Back on July 4th, Wolf issued her challenge for the title and it was later booked. Rounding out this month's big show, Momo Watanabe and Azumi will take on Kaori Yoneyama and Hatsuhinode Kamen, Cheerleader Melissa and Chelsea will be a part of an international talent showcase, as they take on Nikki Storm and Hudson Envy. Kairi Hojo will be defending the World of STARDOM Championship for a second time this month, as she retained the title against Takumi Iroha two weeks ago; she will face Meiko Satomura in the headliner.
Also announced during the press conference on Friday were more matches for this Sunday's show. The promotion had already announced that Io Shirai would be defending the Wonder of STARDOM Title against Nikki Storm in a rematch, as Io defeated Storm in the decision match for the vacant belt in May. Cheerleader Melissa's ongoing feud with Hudson Envy over in California-based promotion, Alternative Wrestling Show will be featured on the card. The former SHIMMER Champion will be going up against the current AWS Women's Champion on the show, this time it will be under non-title contention. Their previous encounters, three in total, have resulted in Envy retaining the AWS Women's Title twice through disqualification. Their recent confrontation ended in a time-limit draw, despite the promotion booking a No Disqualification, Falls Count Anywhere match, with Melina acting as the special guest referee. The majority of it was spent on the outside of the ring, as Hudson's forehead was opened up through an array of chair shots from Cheerleader Melissa.
Neither competitor was capable of scoring the winning pinfall and Hudson retained due to the draw. This time around, their animosity will paint the walls at Osaka World Museum; there is no guarantee this match will be contained in the ring, as it's been proven in the past that both competitors rather utilize their environment for the benefit of each other's torture than have a clean fight. Alternative Wrestling Show has announced a hiatus during the holiday season, as their September show will be their last until further notice. The promotion has not announced a rematch for the AWS Women's Championship for any of the upcoming shows, as this non-title bout could be the end of the feud. Also on Sunday, Reo Hazuki and Mayu Iwatani will be taking on Kairi Hojo and Chelsea, Hatsuhinode Kamen will take on Star Fire and Kris Wolf will take on Azumi and Momo Watanabe.
