Ringbelles Roundup (9/23/15) – Saraya Knight takes on Allysin Kay, Gail Kim is champion again, thoughts on #Paigebomb, Kairi Hojo wins 5*STAR Grand Prix, Mio Shirai retires & more

So Cal Val has placed a bounty on the head of Allysin Kay and has hired "Sweet" Saraya Knight to do her bidding. Kay tried to prevent the merger between Valifornia and the remaining members of The Valkyrie from happening at SHINE 29 and turned down So Cal Val's offer to come together as one unit, to form a supergroup within SHINE Wrestling and regain their dominance over both stables initially had. As a result, Kay's decision is back in a form of punishment, as the mastermind behind the stable was insulted and has dipped into her checking account to right the wrong by hiring the services of Knight.

It will be an Anything Goes match, as neither Kay nor Knight are strangers to these types of matches. Last year, Allysin Kay fought Jessicka Havok to a double knockout in a No Disqualification match and as their feud escalated, they fought to a no contest in a Ybor City Street Fight. They fought again, this time in a Last Woman Standing match. Kay picked up the win and went on to fight Havok again in a Doll Collar & Chain match, with Havok being victorious. Like Kay, Knight also had her issues with Jessicka Havok and battled her in a Last Woman Standing match and won. Earlier this year, she teamed up with Su Yung to take on Havok and Leva Bates in a No Disqualification match at SHINE 26 and picked up the win.

Saraya's involvement with The Valkyrie has been in question for quite some time, as she never officially joined the stable or was introduced as an associate, instead So Cal Val's decision to seek out Knight to handle the situation raises some eyebrows. No matter the outcome, this is the first chapter of the newly formed VAL-kyrie going against Allysin Kay. The show will feature loads of international talent, ranging from Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. Within the bunch, there will be three competitors making their debuts for the promotion and in the country. The current BellaTrix World Champion, Sammi Baynz, and former titleholder, Liberty will be making their debuts, while current Warzone Women's Champion and Pacific Women's Champion Kellyanne will be making hers.

Kay Lee Ray and Rhia O'Reilly will be making their returns and Aussies Shazza McKenzie and Madison Eagles will be along for the trip with Evie. Evie will be granted a shot at Santana Garrett's SHINE Championship. Also announced, Malia Hosaka will be taking on Leah Von Dutch, Ivelisse, Thunderkitty, Amanda Rodriguez, Mia Yim, Leva Bates, VAL-kyrie's Su Yung, Taylor Made, Andrea and Jayme Jameson and Jessicka Havok will all be a part of SHINE 30. Lexie Fyfe has threatened that Daffney would be escorted off the property and suspended indefinitely if she interfered in any of the matches. Fyfe also stated Daffney has not returned her calls and none of her talent is booked for the show or will be if this behavior continues. Kimber Lee will be there too, as it currently looks like one-half of the SHINE Tag Team Champions will be in attendance due to Cherry Bomb's injury. Lexie Fyfe has stated that a decision will be announced regarding the titles at the show. SHINE 30 will be the kickoff to the year-annual Female Fight Season on October 2nd, with Girls Night Out 16 the following day and the anniversary and subsequent tapings of SHIMMER and the first official dates for STARDOM in the states all happening within the month. It remains to be seen if So Cal Val has opened up her checkbook and written a check she can't cash or if Allysin Kay will be forced to be humbled by the outcome.

Gail Kim, Madison Rayne, and Lisa Marie Varon, the former "Tara" all have something in common, it turns out that all three competitors have been crowned TNA Knockouts Champion on five different occasions, a record originally set by Angelina Love back in August of 2010, which was later shattered after Love become champion for a record-breaking six times last April. The inaugural Knockouts Champion obtained her fifth reign last week, as she defeated Awesome Kong, Lei'D Tapa, and now former champion, Brooke in a Fatal Four-Way match on Impact Wrestling. The result of Kim winning the title for a fifth time, as opposed to Brooke enduring a decent run in her third reign is somewhat disappointing, but the upside is it's a continuation of a two-year-long program and on top of that, there were four separate stories packed into this match. There's a competitor that's found a loophole back into the company through an invasion and is capitalizing on the opportunity to reintroduce herself to the division. There's another competitor, Awesome Kong, who is determined to regain the dominance and fear she possessed in her first run with the company, but has encountered opponents or obstacles (Havok, Tapa, The Dollhouse) along the way that present a challenge to her sheer power and size.

You also have Brooke, who regained the championship for a third time after unsuccessfully challenging former titleholder, Taryn Terrell for the belt two weeks before as part of a three-way match with Kong. Gail Kim's interference in the match resulted in the title change, as she took out Jade and Martie Bell at ringside, which gave Brooke the opening to hit the Butterface Maker on Terrell for the win. Kim has been desperately seeking the Knockouts Championship since losing the belt to Havok last November. Lei' D Tapa has sought out the Knockouts Championship this time around in hopes of gaining ground for Global Force Wrestling within the company. However, she hasn't dealt with interactions with The Dollhouse the rest of the division has faced, instead, she set her sights on Awesome Kong the first night she reemerged in the company and fought to a double count-out. The title matchup followed up on this past week's episode, as Brooke was defending the championship against Gail Kim when Lei'D Tapa strutted down ringside and held up the belt. It soon caught the attention of Brooke and provoked her into attacking Tapa, which then turned into Tapa regaining the upper hand by taking out the titleholder from behind with the belt and causing the disqualification. Before long, Awesome Kong made her way down to the ring and had another collision course with Tapa after Tapa slaughtered Gail Kim.

Tapa wants to win the championship, Kong wants the championship, Brookes wants to keep the championship and Kim wants to win the championship to provoke Taryn Terrell into challenging her to another match. Everyone wants the Knockouts Title, all have had their meddlings with Terrell and The Dollhouse, except for Tapa. The bigger story coming and going into this match is that every woman involved has their agenda to become champion and keep the title away from the grips of The Dollhouse. This is the same booking that is supposed to be presented with the divas revolution, instead the entire Knockouts division is fighting all members of the stable. Every knockout is present, except for Angelina Love who is currently pregnant – Nikki and Brie Bella are proclaimed to be the problem with the diva's division, however, this appears to be a concern of six women while the rest of the division is non-existent and hasn't been given the right opportunity to disagree or agree with the alleged claims.

The knockout division has been stagnant over the years, with the company continuing to rehash storylines from the past and an inability to create new ones that garner interest beyond one match sometimes. There's no denying that when it comes down to the matches, they completely blew the divas out of the water on occasion and couldn't rival in comparison until the emergence of WWE's developmental brand – I would insist that the NXT matches have mirrored the Knockouts division or has been better and had doubled the effort and hard work. Then again, some people would say that the NXT Divas are closer to an independent women's product and neglect to remember that the origins of the knockouts were built around talent from the indies. The match itself was decent and sold everyone's determination to be the one that had their hand raised in the end. It was mentioned in the commentary that Brooke's injured fingers could hold a restriction on her performance and that the sensitivity of touch and throbbing pain could result in the titleholder losing. It trickled down to Lei'D Tapa tossing Awesome Kong over the top rope and Brooke knocking Tapa out of the ring. Brooke went for an attempted sunset-flip pinfall on Kim, but she reversed the hold and rolled the champion up for the win. Though there were numerous stories involved in this match – Again, I was not thrilled with the outcome of Gail Kim succeeding a fifth reign. It's to continue the storyline between her and Taryn Terrell and I believe that this division needs a change up when it comes to crowning new champions going forward. Despite forming a partnership with Awesome Kong to take on the Dollhouse, Brooke winning the belt for a third term as opposed to Kong, who had been feuding with Terrell since her return to the company felt underwhelming. Kong had a legitimate gripe with Terrell. Terrell pushed past the old guard of the division, forming a heel persona that would see her become the top antagonist – more so a "queen bee" persona had recruited her cronies to do her bidding and became the longest reigning Knockouts Champion in history. I'm pretty certain that this same formula was intended to drive the momentum behind Nikki Bella achieving her record title reign, but the execution had different results. Though some would argue that she has been allowed to do so, some might even allude that she's been awarded these opportunities due to her public relationship with the "face" of the company. Both competitors are involved in long-running storylines that have been going on for the last two years. Kim went from being the dominant, narcissistic heel to becoming the babyface that sought to conquer the ego-maniacal heel Terrell and bring her antics to an end. Nikki Bella has remained the same character since AJ Lee's infamous promo on Monday Night RAW two years ago and despite the short babyface-like run she had during the Stephanie McMahon–Brie Bella feud, she has remained the same character. Nothing much has changed besides winning the belt and gaining a few more clicks on the dislike button.

I've said it before and I'll say it once more the Bellas are natural heels. They are easy to dislike immediately and, understandably, WWE has found heat magnets that will elicit negative reactions and will continue to stack them against up-and-coming babyfaces. Nikki and Brie received the brunt of the criticism that Lee fired away that night and still do to this day. It was perceived that Lee's aggression was meant solely for the Bellas, even though she addressed the entire cast of Total Divas, insisting that they were all responsible for the division's shortcomings. It's great that WWE has picked up the ball and run with the "Bellas are the problem" storyline. But what's not great is this sudden urgency to force-feed this diva revolution down their audience's throats and tackle this "problem," all because Paige didn't capitalize on the opportunities she had, Naomi was slighted and three women were brought up to the main roster. It's weird – two women who have been dealt the same detrimental booking and death spots on pay-per-views as past and current competitors in the diva's division are the issue and not the poor creative decisions and booking of three-minute matches.

Paige's quote-on-quote "shoot" promo on Monday night felt forced and not authentic. Though this did need to happen to rejuvenate and get the juices flowing back into this angle, the damage it created was Paige splitting off and turning her back on her group. Nothing more. I honestly felt that Paige had listened to a couple of typical, complaining internet wrestling podcasts that constantly point their fingers at the Bellas for only being employed based on their relationships, refuse to acknowledge other divas besides AJ Lee, who no longer works there, still complain that "models" are the issue and allow dirt sheet rumors to manipulate their thought process. Or it's possible she scrolled through her social media accounts and found all this negative banter and thought she had found the holy grail. Regardless, this was disappointing in my opinion. She referred to Becky Lynch as "irrelevant" – which she practically is in this nine-woman revolution that only applies to five of the women. She proclaimed that Charlotte, the new WWE Divas Champion was awarded her opportunity because of her father and called her a "placeholder" – one of the main criticisms of Charlotte's push towards the title is that it's due to her father, Ric Flair being an influence and not deserving. She also debunked that there wasn't a divas revolution and even called out (Natalya) the rest of the roster for taking a backseat to all of this – again another criticism that is consecutive on the internet.

There was so much hesitation, especially when she started mouthing off on the Bellas, saying "You know why they are here" – No, we don't, why don't you elaborate. And she stopped out of nowhere left the ring and headed backstage. What made this worse is that the Bellas and Alicia Fox came out right after Paige's exit and didn't say or do anything to combat the accusations, besides calling out Paige for flubbing a line – it didn't even appear that Nikki Bella was bothered by losing the title. Nobody said anything back to Paige and Sasha Banks, Naomi and Tamina Snuka were again left out in the cold with nothing. Paige called out Natalya and is randomly booked in a match against Naomi on RAW; her first appearance on the flagship show since April. On top of that, Natalya's response to Paige was exclusive to the website, not on live television – a bad idea. Charlotte has been positioned as the top babyface, the Bellas are still heels, Paige is back to being a heel and an introvert, Natalya is still employed and all members of Team B.A.D are still in limbo. Disappointing.
